OBEY?
My days as a mom have been fun yet challenging these days...One of life's lessons is learning how to be obedient especially to your parents. Josie's really had a hard time with this one. She'd rather just say, "NO, NO, NO!!!"
One day we were on our way out the door and Josie was eating a chip and decided to throw it on the floor instead of putting it in the garbage. I kept telling her she had to pick it up before we went any where. But of coarse her answer was NO! She kept crying and saying NO. I wasn't going to let this one go. I usually pick my battles with this little girl and this one I thought it would be a good learning situation. I explained to her in a very calm voice that you need to OBEY, your parents....Jesus likes when you OBEY. I kept emphasizing that word and she then said in a very questioning voice, "OBEY?" like what do you mean? You have to obey your parents, what is this all about. After about 5 to 10 min's of crying she then looks at me grabs the chip and yells, "OBEY!" She understood, WHOHOO!!!! She threw it away and we were on our way. The whole way she kept saying, "Obey, Josie obey." I'm so glad that she's at a age that she can understand, it doesn't mean that she will always do what you say but its a start.

that is so funny--probably cause i'm not in the situation. that is so exciting she is starting to understand! i wish i could get aiden to understand things...i'll give it a few years, i guess :)
I'll have to try this with Zander for sure. Almost the exact same thing happened to me. Zander dumped a small bowl of goldfish crackers on the floor & when I told him he needed to pick them up he just kept on screaming NOOO! over & over. And just like you I was not going to give in to him & pick them up for him. I think he screamed for 20 minutes before he started dry-heaving & then finally calmed down because I gave in & helped him clean them all up. I hate meltdowns. Way to be patient with her!
Josie is such a cutie. My youngest tries to make us laugh whenever he thinks he is going to get in trouble. Sometimes it is so hard teaching kids, but it pays of in the end.
Lol- that is funny... Joey has very selective hearing... and will pretend to not hear anything he does not want to here.
