Hunting

They had this hammock kind of swing in side the cabin and it kept Josie busy the whole time. She love it, but we always had to acknowledge she was doing a great job swinging. She has to have all the attention on her. She's so funny.

We got invited to go up to go on a vacation to a cabin up in Ogden by Elliot's two friends Jared and Shaylee. On Wed, Thurs, Fri, and Sat we went set off on our adventure. Josie and I only went Wed and Thursday and then went home early Friday.
We got to the cabin late Wednesday night. The original plan was to wake up at 5 am and go hunting (with Josie). Mine and Josie's sleep was terrible. We kept waking up in the middle of the night. I woke up because someone was snoring soooooooooooooo loud. I think I only got about 2 hours of sleep that night. I told Elliot Thursday morning that there was no way that Josie and I would be able to make it all day. He let us sleep and he came back for us around 10 am. What a great husband.

I have never gone hunting in my life and I didn't know much about what goes on. I learned what exactly happens when people hunt. You get all in Orange clothes and you hike around all day. We took two horses so if we did kill anything we would be able to hall it out of there. On the way down to where we were going to hunt, Elliot carried Josie in a backpack. She fell asleep and Elliot was caring about 30 pounds of dead weight down hill. He said that was the hardest day of all with her on his back. Luckily on the way back to the cabin Josie and I were able to ride the horses. Josie was so excited to ride the horses she kept neighing all day. Then half way back up the mountain she fell asleep on the horse, laying on my chest. Let me step back and tell you what went on during the hunting process. Jared, Elliot and Jared's dad Russell would climb the hills and mountains. While one of them (usually Jared) would climb to the highest point to get ready to shoot the deer. Elliot and Russell didn't have hunting licenses so they were the ones who would go through the trees and try to get the deer to come out into the open. Me and Shaylee (Jared's wife) and Josie sat on top of a mountain while they did all the hard hunting work. Josie was so good all day. She told me when she needed to go potty she had no accidents all day. I'd hold her under her armpits and her legs up over my left leg and she'd pee. I know kind of hard to understand but it really worked well. It was a long and very fun day, hang out in the wilderness. We saw a bunch of Moose but I saw no deer. The boys saw some does but no bucks until Friday night. I'll let Elliot blog about that later. It was a fun weekend. Thanks again Jared and Shaylee for inviting us.

Those were quite the interesting outfits. I laughed so hard at Josie in a orange hat. Brooklyn thought that Josie was sitting in a spider's web instead of a hammock. I can totally see Josie neighing all day long. Way to go with the potty-on-the-go, Mel!

Mel, those pictures are darling. I so want to meet your little Josie. But I will say you should hunt like us. We go up to my Dad's back yard, find a dead rest on the trampoline, shoot the deer, drive up to it with the truck and throw it in. kind of the wimpy way to hunt I guess.

Sure miss you!
